Ambidexterity in cricket

We have seen many wonders in cricket game. In real life, left handers were only 10% but in cricket, we have seen many players and these players had got a special attention in cricketing fraternity. Also, basically a team would plan for Right Handers and right arm bowlers but if a Left Handed batsman or a Left arm bowler arrives, their plan gets collpased. These are just a small piont in left side. But, here I am going to speak about Ambidexterity, meaning " Both favourable" in Latin. A person who could use both their hands and has equal capability in both hands are called as Ambidextrous.

In cricket, there are many Ambidextrous players, which only few might have been seen in limelight. Many cricketers bowl Right and bat Left (or) vice versa, and they might come little into Ambidexterity. But, here I am going to speak about batsmen who had batted with both hands and bowled in with both arms. Before that, many might have doubts whether a bowler can bowl with both hands in a single match ?

The answer is Yes. A bowler can bowl using both the hands but before changing his hand, he needed to indicate the umpire about change of arm. Also, ICC rules haven't any rule mentioned in that, whether a player should use only single hand or single arm.

Many players have tended to change their arm prior to injury reasons. Phil Hughes was a left handed fielder but after injury he changed his arms and before his death, he has been seen fielding with both hands and switching his hands quickly. Australian cricketer, Blake Dean, the most ambidextrous cricketer, who can bowl, bat and field with both hands. India's domestic cricketer, Akshay Karnewar, can bowl using both hands and he bowls left arm orthodox and right arm off break. Similarly, Sunil Gavaskar was a typical right handed batsman but during 1981-82, Ranji Trophy match, he batted left handed against left arm orthodox bowlers. Sachin Tendulkar, Shane Watson and Kane Williamson, can bat, bowl with right hand but writes using their left hand. In Tamil Nadu Premier League, Mokit Hariharan was seen bowling spin with both arms. Pakistani great, Hanif Mohammed, can bowl using both arms and he did against the famous Garfield Sobers' 365 innings. Also, unforgettable, David Warner had batted all his domestic career using right handed but now he is a left handed batsman but he easily switches his batting side and hit six with right hand, showing his ambidexterity. Kamindu Mendis, has bwoled using off break using both the arms. But, unfortunately, these players haven't got noted.

Reality is that by birth everyone possess 80% on one hand while 20% skills with other hand. But, things like , left hand is an unusual thing, and these myths creates skills to be mend only one one hand ignoring the other. But, if we allow let it be, then it will provide much results and more ambidextrous persons will be produced in future.
