2014 T20 World Cup FInal

India vs Sri Lanka Final

On this day, India played their second ever T20I World Cup Final. This was played between India and Sri Lanka at Mirpur. Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to field first. Rahane lost his wicket early after struggling against Nuwan Kulasekara. But Rohit and Kohli batted superbly in the Powerplay. BUt Rohit soon lost his wicket for 29 runs. Then Kohli and Yuvraj started playing, where Yuvraj from his start was struggling to convert . But till the end of 16th over, Kohli gained much strike and played well. India's score was 111/2 at the end of 16 overs. Then Malinga and his co bowlers started to bowl tight lines in yorkers and placed fielders accordingly to restrict runs. Yuvraj was the first prey to get trapped in the web of Srilankan Bowlers. He was struggling and Kohli hasn't got much strike. He failed to strike. Either he should have given strike to Kohli or Whatever happens he should have gone for big shots since after him there were likes of MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina. But here, he failed to convert runs and finally after a long hard struggle, he got out for 11(21). India scored just 130/4 at the end of 20 overs. Malinga and his co bowled superbly with Malinga's brilliance in field setting worked massively. Even though Kohli scored 77 runs, he took 58 balls, means he himself played almost 10 overs, showing the great bowling attack of Sri Lanka Team. This itself clearly stated the victory of Sri Lanka. As expected, India were out of good lethal pacers and although they took four wickets in the course of just 78 runs, The experienced Sangakkara and Thisara Perara sealed the match with 3 overs remaining.

Instead of speaking of India's defeat in the most important final, SriLanka from 2011 - 2013 almost were in deep crisis, from losing 2011 WC final, 2012 CB Series Final, No win in 2012 Asia Cup, Loss at 2012 WC final at their own home ground and Poor outing at 2013 Champions Trophy, and even the loss of final of Tri series at West Indies, this win would boost Sri Lanka's confidence in the upcoming years. Even in this tournament before, luckily they won 2014 Asia Cup Tournament. The proverbs like "A wounded lion is even more dangerous" and "When right time comes for Elephant, a right time will come for a cat" are becoming true after seeing the improvement and the fight by Sri Lanka. They were even more intelligent to restrict team India, most strongest in this Tournament. Man of the match was given to Kumar Sangakkara for his patient and calm 52*. This is the success story of Sri Lankan Team under Malinga's Captaincy
