Babar Azam - The New ODI Captain of Pakistan

Yesterday night, Pakistani Cricket Board (PCB) Official confirmed that Babar Azam has been named as new ODI Captain. For the past 2 - 3 years, Babar Azam was great in his performances, having a great average of 54 in ODI and 50 in T20I. Already, he has been the T20I side from the start of this year and now after axing Sarfaraz Ahmed from captaincy due to his poor performaces with the bat, especially the defeat against Sri Lanka, he has been officially announced by PCB.

For past 4 years, he has been named as Pakistan's ODI Cricketer Year thrice during 2016,2017 and 2019. At ODIs, he scored 3,359 runs in 74 innings with 11 centuries and fastest Pakistani batsman to reach 10 centuries. Also, the fastest to score 3000 runs in innings. In T20Is, he scored 1,471 runs in 38 innings with 13 fifties. A classy, right handed, top order batsman known for his consistency in cricket. If we speak about Babar's Statistics and numbers, it will take a shot as a long post. But, here is about the strategy of PCB.

Here I personally feel that, PCB has made a right choice in opting Babar Azam as the captain of the national side. Apart from his cricketing skills, his attitude differs bit from other Pakistani cricketers. He is so calm, silent and he just plays for the sake of team. Just focuses on the best for the team, and plays his best game to provide the best result. Also, he still has a bigger career left behind him. At the age of 25, it is the right choice for building a team and a captain for a long term. If we look into the results of Pakistani team, no captain has sustained for a longer time and often got axed and suspended, which should not happen in Babar Azam's case. Also, they made this decision keeping 2023 World Cup in mind.

All the best for the greatness of Pakistani cricket, who are great in creating wonders and one of the most unpredictable top teams.
