Death Anniversary of Tony Cozier

When we take on each and every field, there are both happy and sad parts of the game. While, we cherish for happy moments, there is a situation where we also needed to mourn at. This is one kind of situation, where we need to mourn or atleast we need to have some knowledge on this. On this day, in 2016, Tony Cozier, a Barbadian Commentator died due to cancer at the age of 75, after due to short illness. He was mainly known for his commentary on television and radio commentary during 1980s.

He was born on 10th July, 1940 at Bridgetown, Barbados to a journalist named Jimmy Cozier. His father was the founder of Barbados Daily News and also the managing editor of St.Lucia Voice. Tony Cozier became the editor of Barbados Daily News in 1961, where he worked with retired cricketer Everton Weekes, and covered West Indies tour of England in 1963. During 1965, his first test match commentary was during West Indies VS Australia. He had also did commentary on Australian television channels Channel 9 and Sky Sports. He was in the 1966 BBC's Commentary Team. His final commentary was between 2014/15 during the England tour of West Indies, which he did despite his health problems, showing his passion towards the game.

During 1977, Kerry Packer, Head of Channel 9 and also founder of World Series Cricket requested Tony Cozier to do commentary for World Series Cricket and Cozier accepted as he believed that general public supported this tournament. He even during one match sang " Blue Moon ", a classical pop song. 

He had even written books like "West Indies : 50 Years of Test Cricket". He was the editor of " West Indies Cricket Annual ". He edited " Wisden History of World Cup " and also collaborated with Clive Lloyd and Michael Holding on their respective biographies. Even the commentary box in Keningston Oval, was named after him
