England's 2010 T20 World Cup Win

On this day, in 2010 England won the T20 World Cup, which was held at Bridgetown, West Indies. Their first global tournament win, even though they were the one who founded cricket. It took 35 years to win their first international tournament.

Also, after getting kicked out of the previous year's tournament at their home, particularly the upset gave by Netherlands to them, made a great impact in their performance. For a period of one year, Paul Collingwood, Captain of England team, made several changes in their team including Craig Kieswetter and Michael Lumb as openers.

Also, after a poor start in the group one tournament, with one loss and one NR in two matches, luckily qualified for super8 stage due to a better net run rate.

In Super 8 Stage, their game improved a lot, going to semifinals without a loss with each occasion restricting the opposition thanks to the variety attack of Ryan Sidebottom, Stuart Broad and Tim Bresnan. Also, the team consisted of Michael Yardy and Greame Swann, left right spinning combination. In terms of batting, Kevin Pietersen was topping the charts with two half centuries in two games(during super 8). They beat last year's champions Pakistan, South Africa and New Zealand to reaching the semifinal. They became harder to beat in match per match.

In Semifinals, they met Sri Lanka, where the Lankans were restricted to 128/6, with bowlers except Tim Bresnan, gave less than 5 RPO. In chasing, the game was completely dominated by the opening partnership of 68 with both Craig Kieswetter and Michael Lumb and then the game was finished comfortably by Kevin Pietersen and the present day England captain Eoin Morgan, with four overs to spare. It was complete performance both with the ball and bat.

They reached the finals of the tournament and met Australia, who were also yet to win a cup. But, they can do it easily when compared to England, as they already have won 4 World Cups but the fact is that they didn't have a single T20 WC cup under their cabinet. But, their impressive win against Pakistan showed their strength.

England won the toss and decided to field first, which is their prime winning formula in whole of this tournament. Likewise, as predicted, Australia lost 3 wickets at early stage, with seamers dominating the day. But, David Hussey and Cameron White, fought hard but were able to score just 147 runs. The plan went as per England team. The job is left just with the batsmen to perform well. They did more than expected. The attacking game of Craig Kieswetter, scoring 63 off 48 balls, completely took the game away from Australia. Then, the captain, Paul Collingwood finished the match with 3 overs to spare.

It was a complete tean effort and also some bold decisions took by Collingwood, made them their trophy. If the bowlers had failed, or if the attacking game of openers and particularly top three including Kevin Pietersen had failed during midway, it would have resulted a great slump, and slider in the performance. But, it didn't occur. Particularly, the bowling was so consistent to win. Making some bold changes, will surely support. But, still Paul Collingwood is one of the underrated captains ever in International cricket
