Happy Birthday Sarfaraz Ahmed
On this day, in 1987, Sarfaraz Ahmed was born at Karachi, Pakistan. A right handed wicket keeper batsman, known mostly for trolls, especially the trolls came for his yawning pic during a match at 2019 Cricket World Cup. He is even trolled for his fitness. But, he is one of the most underrated and also most efficient captains in the world.
He made his debut in the year 2007, after leading the Pakistani U-19 Team to the win of 2006 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup Title. Till the year 2011, he was been in and out of the team due to the domination of Akmal Brothers in the middle order. But, in the year 2011, he made his return to the international cricket side against Sri Lanka. He has been an phenomenal wicket keeper and a decent middle order batsman, who could put up a best performance during the crisis of the team. Also, one of the good wicket keepers, the Pakistani cricket team ever had, in their cricketing history.
He was selected in the 2015 Cricket World Cup, Pakistani squad as a wicket keeper batsman. For the first four matches, he hasn't been selected in the playing eleven of the squad. But, due to the team's mixed performances, he has been selected in the fifth match against South Africa, where he scored 49 off 49 balls, and took 6 catches, where he earned man of the match. Also, he equalled the record for most dismissals in a single innings of a World Cup Tournament. Also, against Ireland, he scored a century, which helped them to reach the tournament's quarter finals.
After the end of 2015 CWC, he was named as the vice captain of ODI side, after the retirement of Misbah Ul Haq. After the poor tournament in 2016 World Twenty20, he was named as captain of T20I series. In 2017, he was named as captain in all three formats. The captaincy records were so impeccable, but none had noticed it. He won 11 consecutive T20I series, with 5 whitewashes and those wins were against Australia, New Zealand, England and West Indies. He developed and guided a young unit, which were completely different from the team previously in 2015 Cricket World Cup. He has been trolled for his belly, he is one of the top aggressive captains, and also the most sensible captains in the world. He had won the 2017 Champions Trophy, the first ever champions trophy win by Pakistan, that too during a period where their team was at 8th position in rankings. He had brought his team to No.1 Ranking spot in T20I cricket. During 2019 Cricket World Cup, under his belt, Pakistan had won 5 matches out of nine, with 3 loss and one no result, and failed to qualify for the Semi Finals of the tournament due to less net run rate, resulting in the qualification of New Zealand. Also, their wins were against the strongest host side, England, then against New Zealand, South Africa. But, then stating his poor record, and also the controversies he faced for racial criticism against Andile Phelukwayo, during the tour of South Africa before 2019 WC, and failing to qualify for semifinals, resulted in his sack as captain in the end of 2019. Other than ODIs and T20I cricket, in test cricket, under his captaincy, whitewashed Australia, and it was the second whitewash after 2002.
In his batting standards, he scored 2,657 runs in 49 tests while he scored 2,302 in 113 ODI matches. He scored 812 runs in 58 T20 matches. Under his captaincy in Pakistan Super League, from 2016, he had made his side to qualify for the next round four times in a row, in which 3 times finalists and one time champions in that 3 occasions for Quetta Gladiators.
