Twin Worthy Windies Triumphs
When we think about West Indies cricket, the brand of cricket they expressed shows their courage, brutal, joyful game. But, this day is a remarkable memory for West Indies cricket as two cherishing moments happened on this day.
May 5, 2010
We can start with Women's cricket. On this day, it is a memorable outing for not only West Indies Women's Team but also for the Women cricketers present all around the world. It was the match between West Indies and South Africa, at 2010 ICC T20 World Cup. South Africa won the toss and decided to field first. South Africa rattled West Indies and picked up first 4 wickets for just 52 runs, before Devendra Dottin, entered the ground. A Trinidadian All Rounder, who right from the start smashed each and every delivery and saved the team from collapse. Finally, she scored a ton, the first ever century scored by a woman in T20 World Cup. We might have seen men scoring centuries more and more but, for a woman, the recognition she get is very low. She scored the century off just 38 balls, and as a result they scored 175/5 at the end of the 20 overs, and Dottin herself finished on 112* off 45 balls, and they won the match by 17 runs. Man of the match was given to Devendra Dottin.
When a batsman scores a century, it gets much applauded even after years, but if a batswoman scores a century, it isn't got praised atleast at the neck of time. Now, in 2020 Women's T20 WC, the stadium in the final was jam packed but not so long, even before four years, it was empty and people focused much on Men's Cricket.
May 5, 2019
On this day, West Indies men's cricket team made a record. They made the record of creating highest opening partnership in ODI cricket History. West Indies openers Shai Hope and JD Campbell made 365 for first wicket partnership against Ireland, in 2019 Walton ODI Tri Nation Series. Both openers scored 170 and 179 respectively, with Shai Hope till scoring his century played bit slowly while John Campell was in full fledged Destruction on Ireland Bowlers. These bowlers were also bowling as per length perfect for a batsman to smash and their fielding were so poor, leaking many boundaries. Also, the Irish seamers bowled too much no balls, especially the no balls due to height, which stranded as a support for this feat. Because of this partnership, West Indies were able to score their 2nd highest ODI score of 381/3 in 50 overs.
Ireland weren't much in the chase, lost wickets and bowled out for poultry 185 in 35 overs. I personally want to witness this greatest West Indies team. Due to some inter issues with the team and management, their performance have decreased much, but still opposition fears to face them, as they are unpredictable and so different. But, this won't last long and they need to bounce back strongly to greatest heights which would become healthy cricketing competition among all other nations.
