Aussie Domination over English

The teams sharing a greatest rivalry for around 1.5 centuries of years ago, still fighting to regain just a small sized, wooden block of trophy as more than the title it lies in the matter of pride. These teams had met, an year ago, at 2019 Cricket World Cup, at the traditional Lord's Cricket Ground, and both are fighting to qualify for the semifinals of the tournament. Just imagine the amount of excitement, it had created before the start of the match.

Those teams are none other than Australia and England. It is the face off between the world's best rivalry. England had won the toss and decided to field first. Australian openers Aaron Finch and David Warner, both had started a bit slow and waited for their turn as both Archer and Woakes were threatening them with a perfect line and length. If they were new recruits, then they had been giving away their wicket for free. But, at this point, the experience comes into play. They waited and then arrived Wood and Moeen Ali. They targeted them and compensated the runs which were left during the early 10 overs. Also, as usual Finch were in fine form, and yet again he delivered his greatness by scoring not just fifty but also a classy hundred. At other end, Warner scored a decent half century, and both shared a partnership of 123 runs, before Warner being dismissed by Moeen Ali. After a good partnership, the middle order failed miserably, with a good comeback from England. The run out of Stoinis seemed to be clueless and no words to describe about the poor communication between the duo. Alex Carey, at the end finished the game well for Australia with an unbeaten 26 ball 34. Australia, at the end, finished with 285/7 at the end of 50 overs. The problem in their middle order was prevailing.

England should need to chase it not only for making their semifinal chances even more brighter but also it is seen by the people as the matter of pride. But, Australian bowlers were on top right from the start. Jason Beherendoreff started off with a yorker, dismissing James Vince for duck. The absence of Jason Roy, were haunting England so much. Atleast, Root were expected to score big, but Starc dismissed Joe Root and Eoin Morgan on quick succession. Bairstow, at one end started off slowly, but the pressure created due to the fall of wickets at other end, prompted him to go for wrong shot selection. England weren't in the game. Only Ben Stokes, put off a fighting performance, which kept Australian team in hanging. He attacked, tried, tried.... He scored a great half century, and were supported by Woakes and Butler. He was about to get to the century, before being bowled by Mitchell Starc for gritty 89. From there, again the slider goes down with flurry of wickets. At the end, England lost all of its wickets for 221 runs, at their home soil, particularly, at Lord's, the Home of Cricket. Australian pacers were right on the top, with Beherendoreff, playing his first World Cup game, that too against their arch rivals England, snatched 5 wickets for just 30 runs. Starc, asusual picking 4 wickets, and became a great asset in defending totals for Australian cricket team.

From this match, Australia became the first team in 2019 World Cup, to book its berth in the Semi Finals spot. At other end, the hosts needed to win each and every match. Aaron Finch got his Man of the Match Award for the second century he scored in this World Cup Tournament.

  1. I guess Archer and woakes didn't bowl brilliant with the new ball. They didn't bowled full they were a bit on the shorter side. The plan to bring jason behrendoff is due to poor record of english batsman against left arm seamers and it worked in aussie favour. After the result of this match it was almost knockout for England. They has to win everything in order to lift the cup.Infact moeen played his last worldcup match and plunkett came in and turn the tide in english favour. For english there is huge mountain to climb they have to face table toppers india and NZ in order to qualify for semis. Then cames jonny Bairstow with a press statement stating "People are waiting for us to fail" to the english media in order to put him under the pump.Johnny being johnny came up with two successive hundreds against ind and nz respictevely helping his side to reach semi's.England story in the worldcup is a remarkable one .From being humiliated in 2015 to coming into 2019 as favorites then almost knocked out off the tournament and when everyone wrote them off they found a way to win dominantly against ind and nz from then hammering the Aussies in semi final and then eventually winning the world cup. This england team will go down as one of the greatest ODI teams of all time.
