Duo Proteas Finishers
On This Day, two South African finishers were born. One is known for his all round skills, but had been just a small part in the team, while the other one is pure batsman, who plays merely at NO.6,7 positions and finishes the innings well. Also, both had saved their teams and also both are famous in T20 Cricket.
Albie Morkel
Johannes Albertus Morkel was born on 10th June, 1981 at Transvaal province, South Africa. He had an impressive first class record with having a batting average of 45 and a bowling average of 30.28. He made his International Cricket Debut at the age of 23 in 2004 against New Zealand. He is a tall left handed batsman and a Right Arm Fast bowler, who had a role as an all rounder in South African Cricket Team. He played just only one test in 2009. He has been doing the role of a finisher, who basically plays at No 6,7 and even at times he played as a No.8 batsman. He bowls 140+kmph in speed and preferably given the new ball and opening overs to restrict the opponent's run flow. But, his International cricketing career weren't much on a rise, as he had been in and out of the team for his entire cricket career. His position in T20I side were cemented but in One Day Cricket, it was just a slump and rise. Also, after 2012, he hadn't been featuring in One Day Internationals. A clean hitter of the ball, and his way is just only hit the ball. If he had been able to manage himself in between both attack and defence, no matter he would have been in one of the top class all rounders, cricket has ever witnessed. But, that only way of hitting biggies and striking all way costed him. Also, in bowling terms, even though he was a new ball bowler, his economy were bit poor, and he is a king of person who is perfectly suited for T20I Cricket. But, in domestic t20 leagues, he has got much recognition among every fans. Particularly in IPL, when he was playing for CSK, he had much familiarity in cricketing fraternity, mainly known for his 28 runs smash in a single over against Virat Kohli. He even featured in many other teams like Titans, Durham Heat, Delhi Daredevils, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Somerset etc. He scored 582 runs in 77 innings at ODI, with just 2 fifties in it. With all much fading in career, he retired from all forms of cricket on 2019. But, the little he did make him remember in cricket.
David Miller
David Miller was born on June 10, 1989 at Natal Province, South Africa. He was a left handed batsman who started his International career for South Africa, at 2010 against West Indies. He is just a batsman, a pure batsman, but a finisher in cricket. In cricket, many finishers were created from all rounders, but only few pure batsmen, or wicket keeper batsmen have been Finishers for their respective team. Michael Bevan, MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina ( during 2011 WC), were been finishers who weren't an all rounder. Likewise, David Miller is a finisher in making. He plays for South Africa basically at No.6,7 positions. But, he is so much capable of switching his mode of batting from defensive to aggression. At early stages, he was pure aggressive hitter. But, then after 2015 Cricket World Cup, he started to turn his gears as per the situation of the team. Many innings, he had saved from crisis. As a finisher, lower middle order batsman, he has an impressive record in terms of runs. He has been in side's regular player from 2013 and still he is finishing matches for South Africa. He has the fastest T20I century scored., with scoring in just 35 balls against Bangladesh in 2017. He is a clean striker of the ball. He scored 3,231 runs in 132 ODIs with 5 hundreds and 14 fifties at an highest score of 139. In T20I, he scored 1,409 runs in 78 innings with an high score of 101*. He is due to get his test cap, and after Rohit Sharma and Keiron Pollard, he became the third ever player to feature in 100 ODIs without getting a test cap. A cool headed player and also apart from batting he did wicket keeping occasionally. Right now, being a senior member of the South African present squad, he has some responsibilities on his shoulders, to reinvent the greatness they created before with his meaty performances for the side's comeback. If the bowler misses his yorker, even by very minute inches, he smashes it out of the park and his Sixes down the ground in Straight direction are pure class. He has also been a keen member in Kings XI Punjab for 8 years of period from 2012-19, doing his role as a finisher in the team. If he is on for another 5 years, he would become one of the greatest finishers of World Cricket history.
