Flurry of Birthdays

On this day, four cricketers were born. One is known for his flamboyance, when another one is known for his late surge innings, while the remaining two were known for their dual destruction and legacy they have created by the performances. Here, I start with based on the oldest to youngest player pattern.

Waugh Brothers

In Cricket, we might have came across the names like Hussey Brothers, Pathan Brothers, Bravo Brothers and even recently Pandya Brothers. But, the seed for this term came from them, "The Waugh Brothers". On June 2nd, 1965, a few minutes of happiness, as both Mark Waugh and Steve Waugh were born in Sydney. Steve Waugh born for minutes prior to Mark Waugh. They were the first twin cricketers to feature in Test Match. Even though, both being brothers, in cricket, during the time of 1990s, Mark Waugh has been praised more than Steve Waugh, for his consistency. Even though, Steve Waugh made his debut earlier than Mark Waugh, he was able to cement his position in the mid 1990s, but Mark Waugh cemented his position earlier in the squad. Steve Waugh is known for both long marathon innings and middle order attacking ability, while Mark Waugh played role as top order batsman and he used to target bowlers. Also, Steve Waugh were leg side dominant while Mark Waugh was an off side dominant batsman. Steve Waugh had held the record for capping most test matches(168) till 2010. Mark Waugh's cricket career has ended unfairly with due to bad form, but ended as being Australia's highest run getter, until it was broken by his fellow team mate Ricky Ponting. Steve Waugh, went to make 10,000 career runs in Test Cricket, and his career ended bit late when compared to Mark Waugh. They were fearless brothers and who both pick the small minute gaps while playing a shot. The have also faced the legendary pace attack of both deadly 80s and 90s period of time.

Angelo Mathews

On June 2nd, 1987, Angelo Mathews was born in Colombo, Sri Lanka. When we take a look into his career, it has been both golden and a faded ever silver. He is a right hander batsman and a right arm medium pace bowler who represented his team in 2008, at the age of 21, as an All Rounder. He is particularly known for his calm nature, and also his late finishes. After Sanath Jayasuriya, Aravinda De Silva and Tillakaratne Dilshan, he became the cricketer to pick up 100 ODI wickets and to score 3000 ODI runs. Also, under his captaincy, Sri Lankan cricket team has won 2014 Asia Cup Tournament, and also it whitewashed Australia, which became the first series whitewash against a major team. He has been the guardian angel for Sri Lankan cricket team, where he saved his team for many collapses. He also scored 12,000 International Runs, making his mark at they year 2019 during ICC Cricket World Cup. He was also been an experienced finisher, and a hard hitter at death overs. But, also been heavily criticised for his fitness, where at more occasions he had been involved in many run outs. Also, the losses against Zimbabwe and early exit in 2018 Asia Cup, dropped many criticisms over his hat. But, still after the retirements of Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene and Tillakaratne Dilshan, he has been the guardian angel of the team for past 5 years.

Steve Smith

Steve Smith was born on June 2nd, 1989 at New South Wales, Australia. He started his career at the age of 22, as a leg spinner and then turned his cards into a top order prolific batsman. He has been one of the greatest since his turn around as a batsman and also the leading cricketer right now in the world. He has been a right handed batsman, and his technique is whenever the bowler starts to bowl a delivery, he quickly shuffles across and covers the stumps. The bowlers' mentality will be that he will surely get him out by knocking either his pads or his stumps. But, Steve Smith being so strong in leg side direction and his book mark shots were flick, pull hook, disrupts the bowlers' intention. Also, his bat faces the 2nd slip, 3rd slip direction, showing his wide bat stance. He is currently the No.1 Test Cricketer with more than 7000 runs with an average of 62. But, during 2018, he along with David Warner and Cameron Bancroft had been involved in ball tampering incident, which marked his one year suspension. But, after that, he scored impeccable runs in both 2019 Cricket World Cup and the domination he created in 2019 Ashes Series shows his will power. No matter how many times you target and hit him, he gives back your medicine even more stronger in effect than before. Also, a cheerful and a sharp leader, who has more than 50% win percentage across all the three formats. Also a matured person at very young age with great understanding towards the game.
