Happy Birthday Makhaya Ntini

In recent days, we have known about the brutality in the death of George Floyd, which resulted in voice against racism. An hashtag - #BlackLivesMatter got trended and everybody started posting contents and there were huge protests at United States of America, demanding justice against the inhuman act committed by the police.

You might be asking, in this cricket content, why are you speaking about Black Lives Matter issue ? The explanation and the content, which I am gonna expressing it has a great relationship in between. Let's get into the content.

Makhaya Ntini, was born on 6th of July, 1977 at a small village called as Mdingi, at Cape Town Province, South Africa. He had played for Under 19 Youth South African Games and at the age of 21, he made his debut for South African National Cricket Team. He is a tall, right arm fast bowler, who uses the conditions to the fullest.

He was the first Black Cricketer to play for South African National Cricket Team, after being working as a shepherd, in the field. We have known about the issues about racism at South Africa. Right now, the team is struggling to find itself into their best form because of the sharing quota of having atmost 5 white cricketers.

Makhaya Ntini's career weren't at a high, as during 1999, he was alleged for rape case. Everybody thought that his career will be ended at just 22. But, he maintained his innocence and the backing of South African Cricket Team, helped him to clear of any charges.

After a tough year, he made his comeback at 2000. This comeback, after a slump, witnessed evolution of one of the greatest in the cricket world. He was the first South African to claim 10 wicket haul in a test match. He claimed it 4 times, with his best being against the West Indies at Port of Spain, in 2005. He had established himself as one of the leading fast bowlers of South Africa, and he is the one for planting seeds in the brains of Black Cricketers like Rabada, Ngidi, Phelukwayo, Philander etc.

In 2006 and 2007, he was in World's Best XI by ICC. In 2009, he was ranked fifth in Test Bowler Rankings by ICC.

He was the first South African to claim 300 test wickets. He also reached the mark of 350 test wickets in his 100th test match, by removing English Opener, Alastair Cook. Again I repeat, it is not the first Black Cricketer but also the First South African to achieve these feats.

He was also the first Black Cricketer to play in 100 tests. Courtney Walsh and Makhaya Ntini are the only two players to feature in 100 Test Matches without scoring a fifty. His career again ended so quickly with poor performances. He made his international retirement at 2011 after being dropped from ODI and Test Cricket squads in the year 2009 respectively.

In 274 matches ( ODI + Test ), he picked up 656 wickets. The most by a Black Cricketer. Also, till now, the most wickets claimed by an South African.

This shows, why the introduction content about #BlackLivesMatter is mentioned here. In cricket, there were racism appeals, despite that the talent spoke among the cricketing fraternity. Happy Birthday Champ !
