Happy Birthday to Two Quickies and Two Spinnies
On this day, not only one or two players have born, but four cricketers have born, and four of them were different countries and surprisingly different continents. In these four, two of them were former cricketers while other two of them are still representing their nations in the International Cricket. Also, in these four, two of them are pacers in which one bowls using right arm whereas the other uses his opposite. The remaining two are spin bowlers and as same, with is on the current cricketing phase while the other weren't.
Nuwan Kulasekara - 1982
Nuwan Kulasekara was born on July 22, 1982 at Nittambuwa, Sri Lanka. He made his debut as a fast bowler, during the year 2003 against England. Being a right arm fast bowler, he is far better known for his bowling using seam position. He has a good long run-up, with generating much movement with his seam and his fingers. He made his test debut, during the year 2005, as Sri Lanka's 100th Test Cap.
His career is full of both ups and downs. He was dropped many times due to his injuries at back and at his forefingers. But, still the silver line in his career is that during 2008, he was ranked No.2 in ICC ODI Bowling Rankings, and at 2009, he was ranked NO.1 position. Also, his raise came in during that period with the retirement of Chaminda Vaas and the inconsistency of Malinga. His career had begun with his fellow pace bowler Malinga, and both have served their nation for a period of time.
But, that period is known as the Golden Era of Sri Lankan Cricket. They both were so fortunate to be present in the team which consisted of each and every legendary players like Mahela Jayawardene, Kumar Sangakkara, Jayasuriya, Muralitharan, Chaminda Vaas etc. But, unlike Malinga, Kulasekara weren't much successful during the 30's. He retired from International cricket at the year 2017, with bagging 199 wickets at 184 ODIs, and 48 wickets at 21 ODIs. Other than bowling, he had been a good lower order batsman with few good half centuries from his side, including the fighting knock against Australia, at 2012 CB Series.
Trent Boult - 1989
Another fast bowler in the list is Trent Boult, who was born on 22nd July, 1989 at Rotorua, New Zealand. One of my favorite quick bowlers of this decade. He bowls quick left arm, with using much swing. He can swing the ball at both ways, and a bowler who could bowl consistently with a speed 140+ km/h. He is known best for his opening spells and also as a breakthrough provider. Also, his primary strength is the in swinging deliveries which he use to bowl against Right Handers.
After four years of cricket at New Zealand A Team and matches against Prime Minister's XI, he made his international debut at the year 2011. In his test debut, he impressed with a 4 fer and an useful 21 runs at the 10th wicket partnership. He was so impressive at swinging conditions but when it comes to hot conditions he struggled atmost.
But, as a fast bowler, he needs to adapt at each and every conditions to survive for a longer period of time, in the international cricket circuit. He developed his slower ball skills and also improved the usage of bowling cutters to batsman. So sharp and accurate. He was phenomenal in the journey of New Zealand's cricket team in both 2015 Cricket World Cup and 2019 Cricket World Cup, where at both New Zealand ended up as finalists. For a period of 9 years, his presence in the team, had created a great impact for other young guns.
He had took till now 164 wickets at just 90 ODIs, whereas at Test Cricket he had picked up 267 wickets at just 67 tests. He is the first Kiwi bowler to pick up hattrick at World Cup. But, this man had already picked up 2 hattricks at World Cup. Other than his excellent bowling, he was one of the greatest fielders for New Zealand. He is the one cricketer in the world to have high YOYO ratio. Now, a plenty of career is left in him.
Sulaiman Benn - 1981
Sulaiman Benn was born on July 22, 1981 at Saint James, Barbados, West Indies. Being 6.7 foot tall, he has been a left arm orthodox spin bowler rather than being a fast bowler. His domestic performances were off to a raise, but when it comes to International Cricket, he had suffered a lot.
His career as a cricketer in the International Circuit, were at a question mark, as he had Nikita Miller went to compete for the sole slot in the playing XI. There were times, during which both were used to bowl at a same match. But, asusual competition. He made his International debut at the age of 27.
He had shared a highest 10th wicket partnership with Nikita Miller, during 2012 ICC World Twenty20 Tournament. Also, his name were tarnished during a controversial incident at 2010 tour of South Africa.
He lastly played his International cricket during 2016, before getting dropped from subsequent sides due to poor performances.
George Dockrell - 1992
George Dockrell was born on 22nd July, 1992, at Dublin, the capital of Ireland. He had been a slow left arm orthodox bowler and one interesting fact about him is that, he is the only player to feature in both U-19 Team and also at National Team. He made his international debut at the year 2010, and also were a part of 2011 Cricket World Cup Campaign. But, during 2012 U-19 Cricket World Cup, he was a the captain of the U-19 Ireland Cricket team.
He is known for his best left arm bowling, especially his stock deliveries. During 2011 Cricket World Cup, he had dislocated his shoulder, leaving a halt and he went to represent Somerset team, with replacing another left arm orthodox bowler, Murali Kartik.
He shined at 2012 County Cricket Championship, which earned him a recall in his Irish Team. He played for 4 years and was subsequently released from Somerset during 2015. Like Pat Cummins, he pursued his International career along the education time, particularly the school education.
He was the leading run scorer at 2018 Inter Provincial Cup. In 87 ODIs, he had picked up 89 wickets with a big career left behind him. Also, he is expected to be the one cricketer, who will make Irish Cricket Team to attain International Cricket Status.
