It is between Barbados Tridents and St.Kittis and Nevis Patriots. As already reported, that the matches would be held particularly on Brian Lara Cricket Stadium at Trinidad and Tobago, due to COVID-19 Pandemic, this match was held at that stadium. As there were early rains, the wicket was damp and slow for batting.
St.Kittis and Nevis Patriots have won the toss and decided to bowl first. Barbados Tridents were shaky on the start with both Shohail Tanvir and Sheldon Cottrell, threatening the batsmen with their perfectly bowled deliveries. After Struggling, Johnson Charles lost his wicket. Along with him, Corey Anderson lost his wicket and both came off in the over bowled by Cottrell. In the successive over, Shai Hope too lost his wicket leaving Barbados Tridents, pampering at 14/3 at the end of 4th over. Kyle Mayers and Jason Holder, were on the crease. It was mix of events and just like the heart beat pumping in and pumping out. Till 4th over, St.Kittis and Nevis were destructive, but surprisingly on the next three overs, this duo put on a partnership of 55 runs. Mayers six hitting were mind blowing and his counter attack, made the team to steady their truck. It was 69/3 at the end of 7 over, where Raymond Emrit came into bowl. Again, the flurry of collapse had occured. But, most impressive one is the bowling of Raymond Emrit, with his typical slow cuttters. Kyle Mayers got out for a quick cameo of 37 and Holder tried steadying the ship, which weren't possible for him to do. Happy to the fact that, Barbados Tridents had a very good depth in batting, which helped them posting a decent target. Kudos to Rashid Khan's important 26, right at the end. Barbados Tridents finished with a score of 153/9 at the end of 20 overs. Patriots' pacers have been so phenomenal in bowling the slow cutters, and executing some typically impressive deliveries.
St. Kittis and Nevis Patriots came into bat. Unlike, Barbados Tridents, they had a decent start to their innings. They rarely lost any sort of wickets. But, the problem is with their handling of spin. Ben Duck's innings at the middle order, provided some reliving moments. He played an innings similar to Kyle Mayers in the middle. Then, he was dismissed of by Santner, with a slowish delivery, tempting him to go for a shot. Joshua Da Silva's innings were also a reason for the loss of Patriots. He was struggling right from the start, eating the deliveries as much as he want, and didn't capitalize properly in the match. Santner was so good at his bowling. It was so useful for Barbados Tridents. The fielding of Tridents were extraordinary which contained as much as runs. Rashid, who was played on during his first 3 overs, was confidently handed over the ball to bowl at the 18th over. The confident decision from Jason Holder, turned out to be a master stroke, picking up two wickets and giving away only three runs. At the end,Tanvir had hit a six but it was too late, that meant, the victory of Tridents by 6 runs. Joshua Da Silva, finished unbeaten on 41(41), with hitting just 3 boundaries.
The champion side, start their campaign with a victory. Lot more to come in this tournament. Man of the Match was given to Mitchell Santner for his all round performance of 20(18) with the bat and 2/18 at the course of 4 overs.
