CPL 2020 - Two Matches, One Report
There were two matches held yesterday, in which the result came in the favor of teams batting second. Caribbean Premier League 2020's season has been bit slow and people didn't focus much on this, due to the ongoing, highly intense series between England and Pakistan. But, this CPL 2020 on the other is on the center phase with a final points table, expected in a week. IPL fans, kept focusing on these matches, to predict their team's player performance. Also, these two matches, marks the first return fixture game of this season. The results came in the favor of team losing in the previous meeting.
Tridents vs Patriots
St. Kittis and Nevis Patriots, were yet to register a win at one end whereas at the other, Tridents had won just one game, and struggling to find form due to their inconsistency in the middle order batting. To stay in contention, win is much more important for both the teams. As usual, Patriots have won the toss and decided to field first.
Johnson Charles and Shai Hope came into bat. They made a bit slow start in a condition where batting is supported. The Day games are good for batting, which the results till now in CPL has provided. After powerplay, the start they made, became even more slower with losing their both openers, with run a ball knocks respectively. On the other hand, Jaggesar was so pleasing with his early spells. Soon after few overs, Holder and Mayers were too dismissed, leaving the Tridents stranded at one end. Corey Anderson and Ashley Nurse were on the strike. They had a responsibility in the head to make their team to reach a safer total. So, at this point, Patriots were looking strong. They tight bowling along with a good fielding made the things look right.
Corey Anderson and Ashley Nurse started off but slowly, but soon started hitting boundaries. The both played important cameos, which steadily increased the scoring rate. Anderson scored 30(18) while Nurse scored 25(17) which dragged them to a score of 151/7. During the previous meeting, Tridents defended with this score. So, they were so confident.
Patriots' men came into bat. Unlike Tridents, their openers made a good start. It was Lewis, who himself had finished the game with his good hitting. This is the thing which Joshua Da Silva lacked in the first match against the same opposition. So, Experience speaks at this point. Lewis scored a brilliant 89(60), with 9 sixes under his name. One big knock in this flurry of low scores at this year's edition. Tridents' fielding were also bit fuss, with dropping 3 catches for Lewis. If, they had picked those catches, it would have helped Tridents to win the match. One positive in the side of Tridents, is the economical and critical bowling of Kyle Mayers. At, one end, his bowling proved tough for Patriots whereas others gave away runs. Hence, Patriots had tasted their first win. Evin Lewis was awarded the Man of the Match.
Warriors vs Tallawahs
Guyana Amazon Warriors at one end, are having a decent run in the tournament with 2 wins and 2 losses at 4 matches. Whereas, on the other hand, Tallawahs had only one single win with losing 2 matches, particularly the loss against Warriors in the early meeting, hurt them so bad. Again, these both teams are meeting and this time Tallawahs would be keen to give it back to Warriors, while Warriors look upon to extend their winning run.
Jamaica Tallawahs had won the toss and decided to field first. As it is the day/night fixture, most of the matches are off low scorers. Yet, this match is a proof for my fact. Even though, the pitch is bit slow, no batsman from Warriors had stood up and scored a healthy knock. Each and every batsmen, gave away their wickets after getting a decent start. Mujeeb Ur Rahman, spun the ball, away from the bat and proved to be tough with his mere, good length deliveries. Along with a tight fielding, he was proving to be the best, in his angle. Fidel Edwards, gave some runs with his loose deliveries but picked up crucial wickets inside powerplay. So, hence, it is an overall good bowling performance from Tallawahs. Warriors posted 108/9 at the end of 50 overs.
Tallawahs came into bat. Glenn Phillips, being so consistent with a cloned stance of Steve Smith, made a good, brisk start. But, he was caught at point, for 26 runs. Tallawahs, after a good start, at one stage they were at 40/1 at the end of 5.5 overs transformed and rattled to 62/5 at the end of 11 overs. This collapse, again hinted on the last match low scorer loss. This collapse brought Warriors into the driver's seat. But, this time, Bonner and Russell didn't lose their way and played with calm head. The struck with patience and attacked the necessary balls, coming into their zone. They both played slowly but an important knock, which sealed the game at the end. If Warriors had scored around 130, it would been a tough call for both the teams. Mujeeb Ur Rahman, was adjudged as the Man of the Match.
