Tallawahs pip through the boneless Patriots
Tallawahs were in need of a win to stay in contention for the top four semi final spot, whereas the weakest Patriots team, desperately needed a win, to get things back on track, since they have won only one out of five. On the other hand, Jamaica Tallawahs grabbed 2 wins out of 5.
The match was held at Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. It was an afternoon game, which drained out the energies of both the teams. Unlike other teams, Tallawahs had won the toss and decided to bat first. Due to knee injury, Andre Russell weren't present in the last game of Tallawahs, and his unavailability continues in this match too.
The wicket seemed to be too slow to bat on. So, the batsmen need to be even more cautious and they should take their time on the pitch to showcase some runs. Meaning that, the wicket is more easier for the slow bowlers and spinners to tackle. Glenn Philips and Nkrumah Bonner, made their way out to bat. They scored just 28/1 at the end of powerplay. They match went too slow, with spinners Ish Sodhi, Imran Khan and Jon-Russ Jaggesar have spun the ball away from the batsmen, and this created a slow batting in the middle order. But, thanks to Glenn Philips, who stood till the end. His knock is the main difference in this match. At first 44 balls he scored just 37 runs. But, he ensured to face as much as balls he can. But, after his 44th ball, he started smacking the pacers. On the other hand, Patriots' pacers, were bowling in fuller length and tried bowling slower ones, which didn't work at the death. When a batsman stood right from the start, the focus of him gets immensely improved which will be more efficient to tackle in the death overs. This is what happened in the case of Glenn Philips and at the end, he finished with 79 runs of 61 balls. Hard fought knock. This knock made the real difference, which I will elaborate at the Patriots' innings. Tallawahs posted a score of 147/6 at the end of 20 overs.
Patriots came into chase. They sent Lynn and unlikely Keiran Powell, instead of Lewis. This move backfired as right from the start, Patriots lost their wickets without a proper assumption of the wicket. They were in so much of hurry in which, not even a single batsman stood facing more number of deliveries. Also, using Lewis as a middle order batsman didn't last well. If one batsman played an innings did by Glenn Philips, this score would have been a pamper. Spinners were on a fun ride with scalping quick wickets. Patriots' lost all of their wickets for mere 110 runs.
So, these are the few limited overs matches, which showcases the proper batting by a batsman right from the start. Also, this match shows that T20s are not only about aggressive hitting or attacking mindset. It is much beyond than those. A single man's innings turned out to be the main difference in this game. Man of the Match was given undoubtedly to Glenn Philips.
