A Record making Formality ; Experimental yet comeback
These last two games are just for the sake of formality. Yet one win would ensure a record for Trinbago to finish the group stage without losing a single won, and also becoming the first team to do so. On the other hand, before going into semifinals, they would be looking to experiment on their bench strengths. This marks the first season to be played at slow tracks and were seen double digit scores getting defended and also the spinners' domination.
Knight Riders VS Patriots
These two were the teams who had a contrast in this tournament. Knight Riders at one end, had won nine out of nine games without any loss whereas on the other hand, Patriots had won just one out of nine, with losing each and every encounter due to their poor performances with the bat. On the other hand, St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots would be looking to end on a high and a pride.
During Pitch Report, there is a mistake made on. Mr. Darren Ganga, analysed and gave a report that, there isn't any grass and would be an excellent surface to bat on. Patriots had won the toss and chose to bat first, mentioning that this might be good for batting. Pollard on the other hand, announced four changes just testing bench strength and this worked perfectly. Ali Khan makes a comeback.
Patriots were total slump. Yet another game, and yet another failure. But, this failure is truly planted by Knight Riders. Pollard rested Kharry Pierre and introduced new formula during early spell. He used left arm orthodox bowler Akheal Hosain and experimented Off spinner Sikandar Raza to bowl using the new ball. Sikandar Raza is a good off spin bowler but his capability of bowling at opening spells, leaves a question mark, which gives an answer in this game. He bowled precisely well, especially against Evin Lewis. He made him to struggle and cramp around. After a frustrating period, he bowled bit outside off and the tensed Lewis tried to clear the boundary, which backfired. Akheal Hosain on the other hand, bowled flighted deliveries. He gave sixes but again he bowled flighted deliveries with even less pace and picked up a wicket. So, his bowling marks a good combination. Pollard didn't brought in pace bowler till 11th over. Pravin Tambe were asked to play and his contribution were enormous. His catch of Ben Dunk, at covers, shows his intense skills. At the age of 48, he works as a player of 20 years old. Fawad Ahmed's leg break deliveries ripped through the middle order line up of Patriots. Another fact is that, no fours have been conceded, shows the tight field set up built by Pollard. Patriots weren't really on the game and lost all of their wickets for just 77. Complete package of domination from Knight Riders.
There isn't much to speak about the batting of Knight Riders. Again on the winning side and became the first side to win all the league matches. Fawad Ahmed were awarded the Man of the Match for his 4 wicket haul.
Zouks VS Tallawahs
Both teams need to win to stay positive as both have booked a berth to play at Semi Finals of Caribbean Premier League, 2020. Zouks haven't won the last two games, and they definitely need a win. On the other hand, even though, Tallawahs have qualified their game weren't much impressive throughout the tournament, especially their loss against Warriors in a low scoring encounter. So, a win is needed to build confidence.
Zouks have won the toss and decided to bat first. Their batting were a bit clumsy, as its performance raised at some point whereas fell at some other situation. A strange kinda batting but there are some positives to be taken out from the performances. It was a slow start from Zouks, as Fidel Edwards bowled so well in the powerplay. Again top order failed a bit. But, their middle order showed resistance especially in the form of Roston Chase and Najibullah Zadran. These performances are more important to step into the semifinal stage. In the end, Zouks have scored just 145/6, which is a bench mark total to save the game for the day.
Tallawahs came into bat and unlike Zouks, they had a very good opening partnership. Yet, Blackwood's struggle created a rift. Glen Philips, as usual, struck well and scored an important aggregate of 49 off just 35 balls. Their partnership had almost turned the game back into the side of Tallawahs as they scored 78/0 at the end of 11 overs. Glenn Philips were dismissed by a leg break delivery bowled by Zahir Khan, the Nepali Left arm chinaman bowler. After his dismissal, it became a slump. One brings two and two brings three. Darren Sammy operated with spinners and during the last over of Zahir Khan, he himself placed at slip position and two back to back catches were claimed. In a span of three overs, they lost 4 wickets, making them to choke. From this point, there isn't any revival except Nicholas Kirton who struck some blows in the middle to stay in the game before getting dismissed. Tallawahs had just lost the game by 11 runs, and Zahir Khan was awarded Man of the Match.
