No idea of losing for Riders ; Warriors outplayed Zouks to find a berth
Knight Riders haven't lost even a single game, till now in this tournament and were the first team to book their semifinal berth of CPL 2020. Other than Knight Riders, Zouks found a berth but there is a competition between the third and fourth places. Guyana does need a win to find a place at semi final spots. But, the most haunted teams were St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots along with Barbados Tridents. Both haven't found their success much with losing many due to their rough patch prevailing inside the team. Patriots were eliminated and at least they would look to win for winning their pride. Tallawahs also need a win to stay in the semifinal race.
Knight Riders VS Patriots
These are the teams which are on the top extreme places at the points table. Knight Riders haven't lost a single game at one side whereas Patriots have won only one out of seven at the other. Will Patriots upset Knight Riders ? Or will Knight Riders extend their winning run ? This match remains the answer.
St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots had won the toss and chose to field first, which remains as a sole decision in this tournament so far. Pollard and Narine misses out, as a rest, because of them being qualified already. DJ Bravo is the stand in captain representing Knight Riders.
Knight Riders openers' came into bat. Debutant AA Jangoo, failed to capitalize his given opportunity and got out early. After him, Colin Munro had got hit in his hand and retired out along with rain delaying few minutes of the game, but luckily no overs lost. So, Darren Bravo comes in to join Lendl Simmons. They have a great task as their batsman have got injured. So, they need to stand for a considerable period of time and target the bowlers and guide their team to a respective total. They did it. Simmons at one end, batted so fearlessly with finding a great perfection in his shot making, whereas on the other hand Darren Bravo didn't got much timing. After powerplay, for a period of 5 overs, there weren't any boundaries scored. Patriots gained a slight momentum at that point. But, it weren't held for long as Simmons and Darren Bravo counter attacked. Bowlers of Patriots, bowled many slot deliveries, due to which Darren Bravo scored runs. His shots were only of slot deliveries and there were more. Simmons played an innings, which he would have worked for a long period of time in this rough patch. Unfortunately he missed his century by 4 runs, yet this knock is crucial for him to turn his form from a slump. Cottrell and Drakes bowled well at the deck end. But, they were too late, as Knight Riders reached 174/4 at the end of 20 overs.
Patriots came into bat. Similar to Pollard, Bravo also used duo left arm spinners in the opening spells. They were so clear that, the wicket is too slow to bat on and if spinners and bowlers who have the ability to bowl slower ones were used completely, then the complete output will be beneficial for Knight Riders. This idea paid off and suppressed Patriots. Lynn's batting were so poor and his struggle against spin bowling meant his weakness getting over him. After powerplay, Bravo used Tambe, whom still has the full accuracy. At the age of 48, he spun the ball away and around the batsman. Lynn's innings were a mere failure and it is the representation of a result when a batsman doesn't work on his weakness. Spinners indirectly mocked him by tempting him. After a tough bowling from spinners, Bravo came into bowl and bowled a slower one which frustrated Lynn, making him to go for a mistimed shot and giving his wicket. The long test innings played by Lynn created an impact at the batsmen coming after him. So, they gave their wickets, with run rate hiking up rapidly. Yet, another loss for Patriots and Simmons were awarded the Man of the Match.
Warriors VS Zouks
Due to Warriors win' in their last match, Zouks have been qualified for the semifinal spot. But, Warriors still needed a win to book their official semifinal berth. Zouks, being their opponents are known for team co ordination. Darren Sammy's captaincy were so perfect that their game is so fearless and they have the ability to fight till the end. But, what if their co ordination is broken and rifted ? This match is the complete story.
Guyana Amazon Warriors have won the toss and decided to field first, in a rain attacked pitch. Zouks have made a poor start, with Tahir and Naveen Ul Haq. delivering some masterclass. Their batting were so poor that, inside powerplay they left two overs maiden, in that one over had cost a wicket. Rakheem Cornwall started so confidently but he didn't capitalize the attack fully. Once, their powerplay were rifted then their middle order ability is needed to be cracked. Warriors did this perfectly. The likes of Najibullah Zadran and Mohammad Nabi were tempted and tightened. They lost their ways, which further dented them. As the whole lineup were rattled, Zouks have made 109/7 at the end of 20 overs. Their poor batting performance getting continued from the previous match. Whereas, Chris Green's rotation of bowlers worked out very well.
Warriors came into bat. There isn't any bit and piece information about batting. As the target is low, and pitch is bit slow, Warriors used their powerplay and successfully crossed a hurdle. Their second hurdle is not losing wicket at middle and also ensuring a boundary, once in ten deliveries. This was also perfectly executed. With crossing these two hurdles, Zouks lost their momentum and their rotation of bowlers miserably failed. In the course of pressure, Sammy handed the ball to Chemar Holder and he was smashed so hard by Hetmyer which further rifted their plans. Finally, Hetmyer guided their team to a win and also a place at semifinals. Man of the Match were awarded to Shimron Hetmyer for his calculative innings of 56*.
