2020/21 BBL's new Innovative Rules !
As we knew that the 10th season of Big Bash league, which will be commencing from 10th of December month, Cricket Australia has added some new rules. These rules seems to be little different, and are those which we have used during our childhood days, especially in street cricket. Some might feel strange, while some might be happy with these newly proposed rules. But, before moving into the rules section, here I am gonna declare that, this year's Big Bash League will be reported in this blog along with New Zealand tours.
Cricket Australia, have today proposed three new rules. They are Power Surge, Bash Boost and X Factor Player. Let us first get into the first one, Power Surge
What is Power play ? A power play in T20 cricket is known as the initial 6 overs, where only two fielders are kept outside the inner ring, whereas all other fielders will stay inside the inner ring. Now, Power Surge is a factor, where the initial power play has been reduced to four overs while the remaining two overs of power play can be taken at any stage of game after 11th over of the innings. So, if the batting team decides to take a power play of two overs during 17th over, it is possible. In my point of view, I myself find this a bit partial as in the modern era, the game has evolved much in the favour of batsman. Only few bowlers are shining despite these new customs. In these circumstances, a rule like this will definitely affect the morale of the bowlers.
The next rule is Bash Boost. It is just a comparison of both team's score at the halfway mark. Here, I am gonna explain it bit vast. A team is batting first, scoring some certain amount of runs. Then, the second team is batting. While the batting of second team, during the 10th over of the match, the scores of both teams at that halfway stage will be compared. In this comparison, if the team batting second has scored more runs than the team batted first at this halfway stage, then a bonus point will be added to the batting team. Whereas, if the second batting team scores lesser runs than the team batted first, then the first batted team alias the fielding team will gain that bonus point. Already, the points have been increased to three from previous two and along with the Bash Boost, a team's total point will be earned is 4. But, this rule seems to be something obsurd, as most of the teams in this modern era, start scoring after the halfway stage.
Finally, it is the X Factor Player. The 'X-factor Player', who is named as the 12th or 13th player, can get into the game at the 10th over of the first innings, replacing any player who is yet to bat, or has bowled no more than a single over.
