Amazon bags streaming rights of NZ Cricket !!

Amazon Prime has been one of the leading global Over The Top ( OTT ) Platforms. It's rise has been so crucial and clear with its collaboration. It has digital streaming rights for 'n' number of movies all over the world. It has distribution rights for more number of web series, and produced many originals. After its tremendous service in media industry, now it has decided to take a giant leap forward by planning to gain streaming rights of sports.

Right now, their plan has worked. They have bought the streaming rights of New Zealand Cricket Matches. This includes all formats of New Zealand's games and this will begin from late 2021. This includes India vs New Zealand, in 2022 and its second tour. This mega deal offer will be in continuation till 2026 beginning.

Amazon Prime Video is also set to become the first Indian streaming service to include live sports streaming into it. Also, today Amazon announced its debut India by acquiring streaming rights of New Zealand Cricket. So, it is seen as a domination of Over The Top ( OTT ) media over normal Television. Previously, it was expected that theatres will be getting replaced by OTTs and now each and every television shows, live streaming sports are getting replaced.

The rights for 2020-2021 season starting later this month is intended to be syndicated by Amazon. The Indian territory New Zealand Cricket rights package is the latest in Prime Video’s growing line-up of live sports around the world including Thursday Night Football, the Premier League, ATP Tour Events, WTA, the US Open (tennis), UEFA Champions League, Autumn Nations Cup (rugby), and the Seattle Sounders FC.

David White, Chief Executive New Zealand Cricket, said: "One of NZC’s key goals is to extend our teams’ global reach and to build closer relationships around the world and, in terms of that particular objective, we don’t think we could be in better hands. India has always been important for viewership of NZC; no other country follows cricket like India, so it’s exciting to be announcing this agreement with India’s leading streamer.

After producing Sports documentaries, now this step is seen as a massive boost for each and every other OTT platforms. Also, this initiative will motivate other sporting nations and its respective boards to come up selling their streaming rights, as many nations are struggling to market their game and their country, all over the world due to television channel limitations.

Just look at an example of Associate cricketing nations. Their games and their nations get wider response when they find a spot in World Cup teams. Even if they get a spot, their viewership will remain low as top cricketing nations beat them without any effort. So, the only possibility to seek attention is by beating a top nation. Whereas now, if other OTT platforms come out themselves and stream their matches, then this might create a chance to grow sports and bringing more number of countries.

Along with this, for other supporitng fans, they can also subscribe to streaming services such as Eurosport, MLB.TV, NBA League Pass, and PGA TOUR LIVE through Prime Video Channels.
