Cricket South Africa's Broadcasting Rights !
We knew that, in a couple of days, England cricket team will be touring South Africa for the first time after COVID-19 Pandemic. This series will be one of the three series set to begin on 27th November. The other two Series are India vs Australia and New Zealand vs West Indies. Before getting into the series, we may have some doubts. For clarification, this blog post is written.
The main doubt is for Indians, at which time the match is telecasted. The T20I matches will be telecasted at 9:30 pm while the One Sayers will be telecasted at 6:30 pm. So, think about the time it takes to end. Little similar to what we have witnessed during England vs Ireland and England vs Pakistan, limited overs tour.
The next question is at what channel, does the series between South Africa and England get telecasted ? Pre lockdown period, all South African home games were telecasted at Sony Six and digital streaming at Sony LIV. But, before lockdown there were a deal signed in which Star India has acquired it's Rights.
Yes, Star India has acquired the rights of Proteas Cricket for a mere $ 4 m. You might say, this amount is big. But, when comparing to previous amount of $ 8.5 m, this is even more lesser, showing the lack of support for cricket in South Africa.
This rights deal will be continued till 2023-24 season, for a span of four years. Also, for the first time, the matches will feature Hindi Commentary, reasoning that an effort to marketing Hindi all across the world.
Along with Star Sports, Hotstar has been named as the digital streaming partner of South African Cricket. So, the Domination of Star India, is now taking a leap forward by picking of cricket Rights outside India.
This series will commence on 27th November, with 3 T20Is and 3 ODIs respectively. All matches are played at Newlands Cricket Ground at Capetown and Boland Park, at Paarl with a conclusion of the series at 9th December of this year.
