NZ Squad for PAK Series - 2020/21

After winning the against West Indies in home, they are set to face Pakistan in their home, and once again for 3 T20I games and 2 Test matches. Pakistan have already announced a 32 member squad and they were expectations on the announcement of Kiwis Squad. Now, they have announced different squads for 3 T20Is. Still, Test squad is yet to be announced. There are surprises and shocks in the changes announced from these squads.

In this squad Kane Williamson, Tim Southee, Trent Boult, Kyle Jamieson and Daryl Mitchell will be featuring only in the second and third T20I games scheduled to be played at December 20 and 22th in Hamilton and Napier Respectively. So, who will lead NZ in the first T20I ? It is Mitchell Santner. He was actually planned to lead NZ in the third T20I against West Indies. But, that game unfortunately got abandoned due to rain. So, the first T20I against Pakistan will be the first match for Mitchell Santner as a captain of NZ. 

Ferguson has been ruled due to bone stress injury of lumbar spine, along with Hamish Bennet who have been injured in abominal tear. In the place of this duo, Otago Volts pacer, Jacob Duffy will make his international debut. He has been considered due to impressive performances in Domestic cricket and also in New Zealand A games. 

After captaining the first T20I, Mitchell Santner will have a rest period, as he was in busy schedule since Caribbean Premier League held in August, 2020. So, in the absence of Santner, Ish Sodhi who returns to T20I after a year long gap.

Happy 39th Birthday to Jonathan Trott. He was born on Cape Town, South Africa. He played his U15 and U19 matches for South Africa, but represented England national cricket team in 2007. He made his T20I debut in 2007, ODI and test debuts in 2009. His career is so short span but in this small period he made some impeccable performances which the England cricket would never forget.
