2020 Lanka Premier League Satellite Rights Update !!
After each and every cricketing boards hosting their own T20 leagues, Sri Lankan country were struggling for years to stage a full fledged T20 League. Due to this, they became lack of T20I cricketers, which made them even more weaker side than before in T20 format, and also the current Sri Lankan team is need for youngsters, as the legendary cricketers have retired. With these along with the COVID-19 Pandemic, right now Sri Lanka have announced their T20 League. Even, in this T20 league, there were few players testing positive for COVID-19, which made some superstar cricketers to withdraw from the tournament.
But, there isn't any gain without any pain. COVID cases in the camp will definitely be back to normal and now the satellite rights of Lanka Premier League, has been sold. Its rights have been bought by Sony, PTV Sports and Sky Sports. For LPL, the main target audience is the Indian fans. So, for India and other South Asian countries, the matches will be telecasted at Sony Six and at digital rights, it will be in Sony LIV app. PTV sports will telecast the tournament in Pakistan, whereas Sky Sports will telecast these matches at Middle East and other Outside Asian Countries.
"LPL's broadcasting partner's - Sky, Sony, Geo, and PTV - global reach will help the League grow in stature and will help the league connect with millions of fans across the globe," tournament director Ravin Wickramasinghe said.
The LPL is set to begin on November 26 and runs until December 16. All matches will be played at the Sooriyawewa stadium near Hambantota. This tournament consists of five teams namely Colombo Kings, Dambulla Viking, Galle Gladiators, Jaffna Stallions and Kandy Tuskers. In these five teams, two teams consists of owners from Indian while one from Pakistan whereas one from United Kingdom.
Many reports also suggested that, this tournament may see many games getting washed due to monsoon seasons at Sri Lankan Country. So, do prepare for the best as well as the worst. Along with Big Bash League, India tour of Australia, West Indies tour of New Zealand, and England tour of South Africa, this tournament gets staged which will be a visual treat for world cricket fans.
