Ireland vs UAE - ODI Series in doubt !

Currently, Ireland cricket in has landed in United Arab Emirates ( UAE ), for a four match series and there they will play their ODI Series against Afghanistan, which comes under the ICC ODI Super League. So, the ODI Series against United Arab Emirates will just be a practice for them. Even though, this series were seen as a preparation, during last Friday, UAE had beat Ireland by 6 wickets. Also, the win by UAE against Ireland, remains their first win against Ireland and also one of the best performances. But, now a shocking news has came out.

Before the One Day Match between United Arab Emirates and Ireland were played, there were two positive cases in the UAE Camp. Those two cases were Chirag Suri, who had been a part of Gujarat Lions and Aryan Lakra. Still, the match were held. But, before the commencement of Second ODI between these two nations, Alishan Sharafau, who had been a part of the First ODI, had tested positive for COVID-19.

With the team now required to "remain in quarantine for an extended period of time", it could affect the ability of the remaining three ODIs to be played. Ireland are also due to face Afghanistan in a three-match series in Abu Dhabi starting on January 21.

Cricket Ireland said it supported the ECB's decision and would continue to monitor the situation, with the health and safety of the players its priority.

On the other hand, Afghanistan Cricket Board had confirmed that the ODI Series scheduled between Ireland and Afghanistan at United Arab Emirates will go on as planned. The three ODIs were scheduled to take place on January 21st, 24th and 26th, where all will be played at Abu Dhabi.

This followed over 48 hours of self-isolation by the UAE team after four reported positive cases of Covid-19. Additionally, the directive from the authorities requires the UAE team to remain in quarantine for an extended period of time.

Now, the series is in doubt to continue, with only few days left for the series against Afghanistan, which will directly come under ICC ODI Super League, which is as important as it needed for the qualification of their team in 2023 Cricket World Cup.
